Due to the increasing use of automation within the diving industry, it is essential that when a safety critical function for piece of plant or equipment is automated by means of an electronic control function, the automated function must be fully recognised, assessed, specified, designed, manufactured, operated, maintained and audited throughout its lifecycle.
Namaka Subsea, has developed a one-day Diving System Automation Functional Safety awareness course. The course is designed to provide awareness of the process to ensure “freedom from unacceptable risk” is achieved, as defined in BS EN 61508 “Functional Safety of Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic Safety Related Systems” standard.
The course is made up of several modules, which are discussed in depth and contain essential information required to understand how to manage diving systems operated by all levels of automation and is aimed at all diving operational personnel.

Since there are many means of automating functions, the course will outline the principles of identifying a function and give a basic understanding of applying the process required. The course will provide guidance for operating and managing automated control systems to ensure a suitable and safe working environment for all operation personnel.
Namaka Subsea has previously developed diving system automation management systems for both contractor and operator Clients, to ensure that they have considered their duty of care at the required level to ensure compliance with global equipment automation standards.
